Products · Edge Gateway

The gateway that keeps recording.

The VexaOs Edge Gateway sits on site, listens to every sensor in range, and gets the data to the cloud. When the network or power lets it down, it holds on to your readings and puts itself right.

  • Offline-safe

Readings are written to durable storage on the gateway and removed only after the cloud confirms receipt. An outage delays your data; it does not lose it.

  • Self-healing

If the sensor radio goes silent, the gateway restarts scanning, then resets the radio, then restarts its own service. A hardware watchdog covers a full freeze.

  • Auto-recovery

When the network drops, the gateway works through reconnecting Wi-Fi, restarting networking and, as a last resort, a rate-limited reboot. It starts by itself after power returns.

On-site decisions

Alarms do not wait for the cloud.

Alarm rules are checked on the gateway against every reading. A raised or cleared alarm goes to the front of the queue and is sent immediately.

  • Limits with a hold time, so a brief spike does not raise an alarm.
  • Hysteresis, so a reading hovering at the limit does not flap on and off.
  • Summaries every 10 seconds by default, adjustable per sensor.
  • Detailed raw readings stay on the gateway; the cloud gets the summaries.

Gateway health

You can see the gateway is alive.

Every minute the gateway reports its own health: network, sensor radio, uptime and power supply. If it has had to recover from something, it tells you what happened.

  • Offline

A gateway offline for 5 minutes raises a finding.

  • Power

A weak power supply is detected and reported.

  • Backlog

A backlog of readings waiting to upload is visible.

  • Identity

Each gateway signs in with its own device key over HTTPS.

Connectivity

Wireless and wired, into one gateway.

Bluetooth sensors and Wi-Fi smart plugs work today. Wired RS-485 / Modbus devices are added as an integration.

Available now

Wireless: Bluetooth Low Energy

Battery-powered sensors with nothing to wire. The gateway hears every sensor in range.

  • Temperature, humidity and barometric pressure
  • Door and window contact
  • Sensor movement, battery and signal strength
  • Encrypted sensor broadcasts supported
Available now

Wireless: Wi-Fi smart plugs

Metering plugs on the same network as the gateway. Plug an appliance in and see what it uses.

  • Power now, in watts
  • Energy used, in kWh
  • On, off and overloaded state
  • Cost from the prices you enter

One plug model is supported today, and it fits North American outlets. Plugs for other regions are added as an integration.

Via integration

Wired industrial: RS-485 / Modbus RTU

For the instruments and controllers already on your plant floor. Optional Modbus TCP over Ethernet.

  • Energy and power meters, flow meters
  • Level and pressure transmitters
  • 4–20 mA and 0–10 V signals, through converters
  • PLCs and controllers, HVAC and BMS equipment

The gateway's Modbus adapter is not built yet. Wired devices are delivered as an integration, built and tested against your equipment. Monitoring only: VexaOs reads values and does not control equipment.

One data model, one app. Wireless or wired, every reading gets the same history, alerts and insights.

Setup

What a gateway needs.

  • Mains power

The Edge Gateway is for fixed sites with a power outlet. For places without one, see the Mobile Gateway, which is coming soon.

  • Wi-Fi or Ethernet

An ordinary internet connection is enough. The gateway makes outbound HTTPS connections only.

  • Sensors in range

Wireless sensors connect over Bluetooth Low Energy; larger sites use more than one gateway. Smart plugs join the same network as the gateway. Wired RS-485 / Modbus devices are added as an integration.
